Monday 30/5: Technological Advance

Do you think that the story presents technological advance as being positive or negative?
I think that technical advancement is a positive advancement because it allows humans to protect each other or protect the planet. in the book if the buggers had invaded earth in the 1800 we would be unable to protect ourselves and we would be over run by the buggers. But because of technological advancement we were able to protect our planet from the buggers.
Humans are also able to communicate easily through technology which is used as a bad thing in the beginning of enders game as a form of bullying but on earth is can be used for that but also may other positive points.
But it can also be bad because one day we may be over run by technology, allowing them to think for themselves and be smarter than any human ever could be may allow it to take over the humans. and the new generations may only be used to technology and never have to do anything and it could make many people unemployed, this has already started happening right now on earth.

What part do humans play in this advancement?
humans are developing the technology to make all this fiction become real.

Valentine Notes

Valentine is Ender's older sister, and she does what she can to protect him from Peter, their sadistic older brother. Valentine has much of Ender's compassion, but she does not have Peter's ruthlessness. However, as the story progresses, Valentine learns that the differences between the three siblings are not as great as they seem. She never ceases believing that Ender is the best of them, and she loves him unconditionally. In fact, her love helps save Ender when the pointlessness of Battle School threatens to break him. But as she begins working with Peter to transform the political system on earth, using her pseudonym Demosthenes, Valentine learns that there is a part of her that enjoys control.
Although she does not want to manipulate people for the sake of manipulation, like Peter does, Valentine knows that she is intelligent enough to make a major difference and sees no reason why she should not. However, she would never wish to do damage in her attempt to change the world. Valentine, like Ender, would never deliberately harm someone else. Unlike Ender, however, she falls prey to the irresistible urge to power. But that urge would never take her down Peter's road of power at any cost.
Chapter 2: Peter

  • valentine is nice to ender
  • she feels sorry for him
  • she tries to calm down peter when he is beating up Ender and that he is going to kill him

Monday 23/5: Effective Technique in Ender's Game

  1. Name one technique you feel the author successfully utilized in the first 4 chapters. In one sentence say what the technique is and how it is successfully used in the book. One technique that the author uses in the first four chapters is  dialogue. In this dialogue we find out what ender is going to do but we have to read to see how he reacts in the situation
  2. Find at least two examples of this technique in different chapters. (P1)
  3. Discuss how the author is using the technique in the section where you find it and why it is important to the novel. (You can not say 'he uses it to make the section interesting'.)
